How to be Fashionably Adventurous

It truly takes guts & skill to be fashionably adventurous & it's one of my favorite parts about wearing & designing my own clothes. Fashion is a form of expression & it's quite vital to show off your individuality. Many people worry about taking things too far, so they play it safe, but that defeats the purpose. My opinion is that if you like it for yourself you deserve to wear it regardless of if it's in style or not.

For example, sometimes I like to mix patterns. This can be a tricky choice because it can come across as mix-matched if one isn't too careful. Whenever I go this route, I focus on the colors themselves and ensure that they complement each other. I could wear a Polkadot top with a striped bottom, & as long as there's a cohesive throughline, the outfit will work.

Challenging patterns, Mixing it all up to create something new & adventurous.

Another way to get away with being fashionably adventurous is by choosing a statement piece. Rather than being extra with every single item of clothing I'm wearing, I'll choose one piece that's louder or bolder than everything else & uses the other pieces to tone it. down. If I'm wearing a bright midi-skirt, I might pair it with a solid blouse or peasant top to keep the focus on the skirt. It creates a beautiful balance.

Sometimes the daring fashion choice comes in the form of an accessory. When an outfit doesn't feel adventurous enough, an exciting accessory can change the whole vibe. When I go for something simple and cool, a graphic tote bag gives my outfit that blast of effortless excitement.

Other times, I'll just design a bag myself so I can have exactly what I'm looking for. I crocheted a flower basket bag with handcrafted flowers & floral applique that can act as the centerpiece of a more subdued outfit. I sometimes build an entire outfit around my accessories, and it's a reminder that they aren't just last-minute add-ons. They can also be the main event!
