My Photography Process
Photography is such an instrumental part of my handmade creations & I've worked to become proficient at it. I crochet everything I make with care & I truly like give just as much attention to the presentation as well. With each piece, I think about how I can best display them, coming up with aesthetics I can use, special effects, & camera angles to really make things pop. These are some photography secrets I use to take my Dream Crochet creations.
Everything I create comes from a place of inspiration. What mood am I trying to get across with the project I'm working on? When I do flatlays or take photos to display these handmade pieces. So I like to make sure that my background is cohesive with the creation(s). If it's sunny & bright, the background should reflect that while not being overpowering. But if I've made something dark & moody (like say for a Halloween-themed post) I'll go for something more hauntingly suitable. Everything I make tells a story and the photos need to capture that.
It doesn't quite end after the photo is taken & I've been sharpening my skills for a long time. I began Photography using Creative Self Portrait Photography in College. Iām a bit of an Introvert & honestly, did Not like being in front of the camera at all. So I wanted to vocalize myself creatively through Art & that is truly where the adoration for it began. It pushed me out of my comfort zone & introduced to a new realm of Expression. So adapting this Art form into presenting my Handmade creations was like being bringing two worlds together. Which truly laid the groundwork for knowledge, which I then implemented into the Crochet world. I wanted to offer a handmade, personal, as well as, a creative visual story to fully express my love for clothing.
Sometimes, I choose to create the background myself, & these are the steps I take:
-I take a photo on a plain background using my Canon 60D DSLR [with several lens-50MM, 18-55MM] + Tripod- Manfrotto Compact MKC3-H01M
-I upload the images from the SD Card, Select the Main Photo/Image to send the photo from my computer to my phone to edit on Picsart [which is great for creating wondrous backgrounds)
-I remove the background to choose a new one on Picsart
-Then I resend the Main Photo back to my Computer to edit on Ribbet for that extra photo/background cleaning
Then I edit the accompanying photos to also send, back to my phone for the editing process for the final images
These are some of the photo editing apps I use for giving my photos more personality include:
-Afterlight
-VSCO
-A Color Story
-Snapseed
-Ribbet (On Desktop)
It can seem like a daunting process, but it gives not only my photos, but my creative Heart such excitement, with that extra finishing touch which only elevates the magic & truly sets the tone for how beautiful & wonderful handmade is.
