How to Stay Consistent
Our lives can get very busy and sometimes it can be a real struggle to stay on top of all the things you want to do. For me, that’s crocheting, which is a passion of mine I never get tired of, but life doesn’t always make that easy. I’ll be in a great groove and then suddenly, I get disrupted and it’s no longer flowing so easily. I’ve picked up some skills to ensure I get back on track when that happens.
The first thing to remember is that it’s mind over matter. The first hurdle that prevents consistency is the mind, and once you can overcome that, it makes things so much easier. Sometimes, you’re just not always in the mood to be proactive when you’re unmotivated, whether it’s beginning a daunting project or making social media content. I find that if I don’t overthink it, the activity becomes so much easier. Instead of considering all the reasons why you don’t want to do something, just get started on it as if you’re jumping into a cold pool. When I actually start doing it, I usually realize it’s not so bad.
Another tip I have is to make it fun. this can mean something different to everybody, and the best part is that you can choose what works for you. For me, I think of it like a game. I’ll time myself if I’m working on a project and see if I can beat it, or if I’m making a photo or a video, I’ll challenge myself to see how creative I can be. Instead of treating it like work, it becomes a game and you take the pressure off.
Make a schedule and try your very best to stick to it. This part makes it sound more like work, but in combination with the other two examples, it doesn’t have to feel like it. In the past, I would never schedule all of my projects because I’m a free-flowing person who’d rather just let things come, but because my plate has become so full, it’s unmanageable not to plan.
What I’ve found is that it actually decreases stress because I make sure that everything is accounted for, and before I forget things they slip through the cracks. Now, everything gets accounted for because I make sure I have time to do it, and when I need to, I can just move the schedule around to benefit my needs.
Consistency is key, and once you’ve found a rhythm that works for you, it makes accomplishing your goals all the more attainable!
