Behind The Design: Dream Crochet Spring 2024 Collection
The Dream Crochet 2024 Collection is finally here! It’s called Oceanic Maze & it took me a bit longer to create because this season has been so creatively busy, but I really wanted to get this concept created. My vision for this was to do something a little different. Usually for Spring, I always think of flowers, like last year’s Spring Lively Collection was all about floral’s, thought this year, I really wanted to to come up with something a bit different & refreshing. That’s how the Oceanic Maze Collection was born.
Instead of going with a garden theme, I considered what else Spring reminds me of, and the ocean came to my mind. Walking the beach, boats sailing on calm waters, and blue skies were on my mind as I was crocheting this collection, and that’s what came through in the end. These pieces were made to be versatile and interchangeable while still being cohesive.
The central colors are shades of blue for a tonally cool visual that makes me think of the ocean. High-fashion fringe, color block. ‘70s vibes with v-necklines, loose sleeves, and loose pants are all essential parts of this collection too. I wanted to use fringe in clever ways so I was very conscientious of that. For example, the high-waist skirt transitions from creme to light blue, to navy blue fringe, which reminds me of water dripping.
The V-neck sleeveless top is the key piece of the collection. I always make one garment that encapsulates the collection and this is it. The dark blue shapes evoke the concept of the maze and it matches so well with everything else in the collection.
The cropped wide-sleeve top has a fringe piece at the collar because I wanted the minimalism from the previous collection to carry over. The same goes for the long vest which has a small portion of navy blue at the shoulders while the rest of the garment is creme. Doing less can make a big statement and the subtle touches stand out more. This would also look cute with pockets in a different shade of blue and buttons. You can add as much as you want!
I’m very proud of the Oceanic Maze Collection and I think with each one I do, the pieces feel more unified. Best of all, there’s still a bonus item I’ve yet to reveal!
