Claudia ‘Interview with the Vampire’ Halloween Crochet Costume
It took me such a long time to figure out what I wanted to do for Halloween this year. I kept going back and forth between different options, but when I thought of Claudia from Interview with the Vampire, it just made perfect sense. IWTV is one of my favorite shows, it’s well-written, dark, and beautiful, and Claudia has such a great character arc. She’s strong, curious, intelligent, and fiercely loyal, I just had to be her for Halloween 2024.
I chose her to make her Baby Lu dress from Interview with the Vampire Season 2. Story-wise, this outfit suppresses her, and she’s forced to perform the song “I Don’t Like Windows When They’re Closed.” It’s heartbreaking watching her have to repeat this night in and night out, but she never forgets who she is underneath. She wants freedom and to be with those she loves. I find that inspiring.
Thankfully, I had enough of the colors, light blue, black, and white, on hand to pull this concept off. I crocheted the main part of the baby-doll dress first, then added the layers. There’s tiered lace on the bodice and the bottom and the hem, and the big bow was crocheted as well and connected to the collar. I then made two crochet flowers and attached them to the headband. I wore a blouse underneath the dress and tied ribbon to the sleeves, then added lace to some socks that I already had.
Everything came out just as I had hoped it would. I must admit, I was a bit worried because I really didn’t have a lot of time to complete it, but thankfully I rose to the creative challenge. I planned it all out first and since I’ve incorporated all of these elements before -for different projects, I was able to get it all down without many issues.
I think this is going down as one of my favorite Halloween crochet creations and I’m already thinking about what I should do next year!
