The Best Beginner Crochet Projects

Crocheting might seem like a daunting task at the very beginning, but it doesn’t have to to be. I remember when I first started and wondered if I’d ever become skilled at it. The activity was fun, but some projects looked so complex that it was overwhelming. Thankfully, I started small and didn’t try to move on before I was ready. Building the basic foundation with patterns that didn’t involve too much technique. From there, I built upon it and before I knew it, I was crocheting more advanced projects. The best part is that I still use many of the same techniques from when I started. Nothing is ever wasted when it comes to crochet.

These are the best beginner crochet projects.

The Crochet Scrunchie Headband

The crochet scrunchie headband is easy and so much fun to make. It doesn't require that much yarn and it doesn't take that long to make. It's a quick accessory you can add to your outfit for a subtle punch of fun, and by simply making the scrunchie smaller, it can fit on your wrist. I still use the scrunching technique for other projects like skirts and sleeves. The pattern and tutorial for the crochet scrunchie headband are free, try it out!

Granny Squares

Granny Squares

Start with one color rather than multiple colors so that it's not overly complicated. I'd suggest using the chain stitch at first, which works well for the granny square pattern. Begin by chaining 4 stitches, then use a slip stitch to form it into a circle, then continue in a circle. This pattern repeats, and before you know it, you'll have a complete granny square. Once you feel comfortable, experiment with different colors. Try two at first, the inner square a different color than the outer square, then add 3 colors and even 4 if you’re feeling bold enough. Crochet Flowers

I love making crochet flower patterns so much. I'm a flower child at heart and I love incorporating them on my accessories and clothes for a vintage vibe. These are so easy and quick to make, you can crochet many of them in no time at all once you know what to do. They look so cool on bags, skirts, tops, hats, and more. Once you get the basic pattern down, make the rounds bigger for a more impactful flower. For the free pattern and steps to make it, check out the Super Easy Crochet Flower Pattern.
