Behind the Design: The Merle Granny Square Crochet Top

I never feel like a crochet project is truly finished even when I finish it! New ideas will come to me and I'll remake them or update them and that's what happened with The Merle Granny Square Crochet Top. I liked how it turned out, but I wanted to make it with bright new colors and that's exactly what I did!

I thought about how I could utilize granny squares in an interesting way, so I set out to create two large 6 Round Squares. Attach together to construct a the wide sleeves which would give the top a breezy bohemian style. This time around, I went for more brighter colors- using pink, white, orange, and purple and each granny square had a different order of colors.

The top is cropped and on the bottom, the stitches are open (DC Cluster Stitches) so it's entirely cool for the Summer. I love experimenting with various techniques to create with granny squares, so coming up with this concept was one tha I truly held on to & I just might have to try this same design in different

I had to make a matching skirt to go with it, so I upcycled one to pair along with the recreated theme. I cut off the waistband from a pair of old white shorts and crocheted a wrap skirt that connected to it. This upcycle was also a concept that I recreated-all to fit in the remaking vibe.

What’s so great is that these two pieces pair well together, &they can also be matched with other clothes as well!. Which is why I enjoy making coordinating sets, it opens the door for mixing and matching, not only with the created design, but with other items in your closet! I’d match the top with a maxi-denim skirt, and the upcycled waistband skirt I’d go with an orange bandeau top. I love clothing combinations!
