Why is Creating & Making Important to You?

Asking a Creator, Artist, or Maker of any kind why creating is important seems like such a simple question, but it's one of the most important ones. Everything is about intention. Making something for the sake of it will not bring about the best results and it's unsustainable long-term. Eventually, you'll lose steam if your heart isn't in it, which is why it's better to know your reasons before you even begin.

For myself, being a Creator is more than just making garments because they look nice or for practical reasons. While those two things play a part in it, they don't fully express my reasons for doing what I do. Crocheting is a form of self-expression that allows me to share my gifts and ideas. Everything I make tells a story & I love having the opportunity to be a storyteller.

Fashion is more than just looking presentable or appropriate in a given situation. When I get dressed, I think about my mood first. Sometimes I'm feeling casual and I'll throw on jeans, a tee, & a crocheted cardigan. If I'm feeling classy I might put on a silk blouse, a cropped jacket, and crocheted pants. Or If I'm in a retro hippie mood, I might do a crocheted top with flower applique & a long denim skirt. Every outfit says something particular about me & I want to curate it correctly.

I get a great sense of accomplishment when I create something new. There's nothing quite like having a vision in mind and then bringing it to reality with my own hands. I love the process of picking just the right yarn, the colors, the style, & adding any extra features to make crocheted items that represent a larger idea.

Creating is about inspiration & it makes life more entertaining when you embrace that. The right outfit can uplift your mood and puts you in the right spirit to take on the day. I love being a Maker and my well of inspiration runs deep.
