Top 5 Summer 2023 Accessories
Accessories are sometimes overlooked when people put together outfits, but they can actually make or break a look. The right one can take what you're wearing to an even higher level by bringing the other pieces you're wearing together cohesively. It can either match the rest of your outfit seamlessly or be that statement piece that pops in a more fresh & unique way. Do yourself a favor, & don't sleep on accessories, especially handmade ones!
These are my top 5 summer 2023 accessories…
Crocheted Bonnets
One of my new favorite accessories to make and wear is the crocheted bonnet. Taking a classic piece and reinventing it is one of my favorite things to do, and there's so much that can be done with them. The color combinations are what really excite me. I like pastel options for a more subdued look, or brighter options if I want the bonnet to really stand out. For that extra bit of personality, I add appliques to take the crocheted bonnet from a safe accessory to a more expressive one.
Metallic Jewelry
Metallic clothes are popular this season, but let's not forget the initial purpose of metallics: jewelry. A silver chain necklace or gold chunky bracelets are the right choices to take something that's already classy & give it that extra boost. What's so great about metallics is that they match virtually everything, so you rarely have to worry about whether or not the color matches, you mostly have to pay attention to the style of the jewelry itself.
Big Bags
Big bags are back & I couldn't be any happier about it. I love a small & cute bag that's easy to go, but for convenience, sometimes a larger bag is needed. I tend to use totes when I have a lot of things to bring with me (usually craft supplies), & my granny square tote happens to be my favorite. I also wouldn't mind a classy trapeze tote bag or a more casual canvas tote to add to my collection.
Sunhats
The sun can be brutal, & a good defense against that is the sunhat. Like the aforementioned bags, the bigger they are the better. Oversized straw sunhats with wide brims add some drama to a summer classic and can take an outfit in a more chic direction. For that, I'd go with a black sunhat when my outfit is dressier or dress-casual. You'll have some shade from the sun and you'll look good while wearing it.
Flower Applique
When you really want your outfit to feel like a piece of art, adding flower applique can do that with ease. I love flowers & creating crocheted versions of them as well. I'll often attach them to other clothing items. Flower chokers, flower bonnets, flower bracelets, flowers on bags. There's really not much I won't put flowers on. It instantly makes all those pieces more romantic & can make something simple more magical. Sometimes one flower will do, but other times I like to add as many as I can.
