Favorite Ways to Crochet Usefully
One of the best things about Crochet is that it can be used in so many ways. Though I truly love crocheting clothes & fashion accessories, but that’s not where its usefulness ends. Many items can be made with the scraps of yarn, which is why it’s so good (and sustainable) to keep them around. Crochet is involved in many areas of my life and it makes things a lot easier knowing that all I need is yarn and my crochet hook to make something that makes things easier. What’s even better, is that I can make it exactly how I want!
Here are a few ways that I like to use Crochet:
Crochet Coasters
I drink tea and coffee often, especially when I'm working on a project and need that extra boost. Coasters, along with Doilies, are truly perfect to use for teacups and coffee cups and there's something quite quaint about them. Vintage vibes for sure. Small steel crochet hooks and crochet lace work best to get that light delicateness and experimenting with patterns. Truly gives them ornate styles of their own. For coasters, I like cotton yarn because it's heat-resistant & quite absorbent.
Dishcloths & Towels
Crochet cloths are so easy to make and they’re so handy. It doesn’t require a whole lot of yarn and they can be used as dishcloths to clean surfaces. Cotton is the best choice for dishcloths, and I'd suggest worsted-weight cotton, which is medium-weighted. Of course, if you have the time and the length of yarn, you can just continue crocheting to make towels. They can either be towels for the bathroom or creating a beach towel. The best part about the latter is that you can really go for some bright designs with sunbeams, beach balls, and water. The more fun the better!
Wall Art, Tapestry
Sometimes, you need art around you to put you in the right headspace. Creating Tapestry is perfect for creating something serene or meaningful to you personally. This also requires more time and yarn, but it’s well worth it. Aesthetics serve a very important function in the creative process.
Dry-Erase Cloth
It might not immediately come to mind, but you can crochet dry-erase cloth for dry-erase boards. This can be made with leftover scraps that you need to find a use for. Teachers will appreciate this as it’s low-cost and highly effective, and people who have businesses or just like to plan using these boards can try this as well.
Project Bags
Project bags are such a lifesaver. I have so many crafty items that I take on-the-go and they make organizing everything so much easier. But after years of wear and tear, they tend to fall apart and every so often I need a new one. Crocheting totes to carry all my things saves me money and simplifies my process so I have less to worry about.
