Behind the Design: The Freia Dress

I was looking forward to this “Remake With Me” because I loved the original crochet dress turned out. I can safely say that the second time around was even better. I adore free-flowing dresses with dramatic sleeves and this one in particular has become one of my favorite recent pieces. I know I truly love a garment when I find myself randomly looking forward to wearing it, and that's what happened here.

When I first made The Freia Dress, I ran into some stumbling blocks. I truly wanted to get the open back just right and make sure I got the spacing just right. Because of that, it took a little longer than I would have hoped, so this time I challenged myself to get through it faster, and thankfully I succeeded.

My second mission was to experiment with the colors. The first time it was multi-colored, pink green, purple, blue, and orange. I really loved how it turned out but I didn't want to just do the same thing again. I decided to go for something tonal and used shades of purple and it has a completely new effect That's what I especially love about Remake With Me's. There are just so many different ways of crocheting the same garment.

This dress features the aforementioned back detail with a thin strap, bell sleeves, and stops above the knee. This kind of silhouette is so pleasing to me, long at the top and short at the bottom. I'd wear this with an easy pair of flats or fill in the space with knee-high boots. Because of the scoop neck, this would look great with necklaces. I'd go for a choker which could give the outfit more of an edge.

I’m looking forward to making more of these dresses. I already have a few color variations in mine that I know will look gorgeous. You can find the crochet kit at Lion Brand.
