How to be Adventurous with Your Crochet
It can be tempting to want to play it safe when it comes to crocheting. When you're good at a technique or accustomed to using a certain yarn you might think there isn't a need to venture outside the box. It can be scary to change things up, but that's really only the way to grow.
I research frequently to stay knowledgeable about crochet techniques and to see if there's an area that I could possibly grow in or explore. Sometimes it's nerve-wracking when something seems out of my depths and it's also exciting. I remind myself that I don't have to be perfect at it when I first start, I'm learning something and there's something to be gained from that.
For example, I've been working on filet crochet, which is a technique that requires the use of spaces to create designs in your project. Skipped stitches in just the right places can have a positively interesting effect and I have a feeling that this could come in handy in the future. When something comes along that would look good with this, I'll have the ability to filet crochet.
Pushing yourself design-wise will only help you become stronger at this. I've made a How to Create an Elastic Crochet Waistband; if you make many bottoms, this will come in handy. There's another video that I made about How to Create Tiers, and ever since I' learned this, I've been implementing more tiers into my designs.
That’s the beautiful thing about learning new things, it’ll inspire you incorporate them into your designs and make them even greater. Plus, its always a good thing to try and challenge yourself, you always win in the end.
