How to Style the Open-Shoulder Granny Square Crochet Top
Looking back at the inspirations that guided me last year…. I always find it interesting which projects take off like this open-shoulder granny square crochet top. It was a fun process making it as I recall & I like to think that that kind of moment, translated into the final result. Which is what you hope for when creating, that the feeling of making, moves into the design, happily living there in that time.
The garment was constructed to be super roomy (I love a bit of space!) with open shoulders and it can be styled an assortment of ways. I used the Summer Queensland Coastal Coastal Cotton yarn from Knitting Fever. The best part is the crochet top does most of the work for you and that makes styling very easy.
In that video, I wore a Maxi skirt with a beautifully elaborate design. It gives the outfit a sort of boho chic that I simply adore throughout all of the seasons. It's stylish without sacrificing comfort and all the extra fabric provides warmth if it's still a little too chilly. For more covering, I'd also pair with some brown boots which will complement the green, yellow, and dark reds.
I wore another skirt with this top as well. This one was solid and orange and that allowed the top to be the star of the outfit. The granny square pattern stands out more, and the color of the skirt gives this a light vibe. To balance it out, I’d switch out the brown boots for black ones.
When things get warmer, I’d wear jean shorts that skew on the shorter side. While denim blues would work perfectly fine, I really love the idea of colored jeans for this crochet top and I’d pair it with brown, orange, or black shorts depending on my mood. The combination of the open sleeves and the shorts create contrast, and I’d wear knee-high boots to finish it off.
All of these outfits would look great with bracelets. I like to go overboard when it comes to accessories (what can I say, I love bracelets!) and it’ll help with all that open space. If it’s on the colder side, simply throw on a denim jacket. The open shoulders are a highlight, but the granny square design is still impactful!
